William Jones (1897–1974)
The Very Rev William Edward Jones, MA(Oxon) was an eminent Anglican Priest in the 20th century.〔The Times, Thursday, Jan 19, 1961; pg. 14; Issue 54983; col C ''Christian Duty To Advance Unity''〕
He was born in 1897,〔“Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 9780199540877〕 educated at Jesus College, Oxford and ordained in 1922. His first post was as a Minor Canon at Brecon Cathedral after which he Priest in Charge at Kondinin, Western Australia. Later he held Incumbencies at St Luke’s, Cottesloe and then St Mary’s; West Perth.〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 He was Dean of Brecon Cathedral from 1950 to 1964 then Vicar of Penally until retirement in 1969.〔(Photo of church )〕
He died on 11 June 1974,
